3 things worth checking before your next renewal

A minute now saves a renewal-day surprise later

What happened while nobody was watching

Three vendors. One owner. Let that sink in.

Thoma Bravo, a private equity firm out of Chicago, now owns three of the major SAM platforms: Flexera (since 2020), Snow Software (via Flexera, since February 2024), and USU’s product business (since December 2024).1

That matters more than it used to. The US CLOUD Act allows US authorities to compel disclosure of data from companies under their jurisdiction, when that company has possession or control of the data, including through subsidiaries, regardless of where the data is physically stored. Ownership is often what determines that exposure, not the location of the server.

Xensam vs. everyone else

Two vendors can look the same on a feature list and still answer to completely different laws. Here’s what that actually means.

If your current platform feels closer to the left column, it may be time to consider a better approach.

What our customers say

What you’re probably wondering

Q: We already have a SAM tool. Why would we switch?

You’re probably not switching because the program is broken, it’s the tool that’s outdated. Xensam plugs into what you’ve already built, without the migration horror stories.

Q: How long does implementation actually take?

Weeks, not months. Most legacy SAM migrations run 6 months or longer. Xensam customers typically see initial data within the first few weeks.

Q: Do you work with organizations already on ServiceNow?

Yes. Xensam connects to ServiceNow via the Xync connector and feeds richer SAM data directly into your CMDB. It’s not a replacement for ServiceNow, it makes the data behind it better.

Q: Is this only relevant if we’re worried about US government access to our data?

No. Sovereignty is one reason to look closer, but the tool itself needs to earn its place regardless, better discovery, better usage tracking, faster deployment.
